Portrait

Dr Vivek Ranade is a Bernal Chair Professor of Process Engineering at Bernal Institute, University of Limerick, Ireland. He leads ‘Multiphase Reactors and Process Intensification’ group. Vivek and his group use experiments, computational flow modelling, population balance models and machine learning to generate new insights in multiphase flows, multiphase reactors, and process intensification. The group is developing novel fluidic devices, intensified processes and ‘factory in a box’ platforms for decentralised manufacturing, personalised products, responsible resource usage, decarbonisation as well as mitigation and valorisation of waste.

Vinay M. Bhandari worked as Chief Scientist and Professor-AcSIR (Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, India) at Chemical Engineering & Process Development Division, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India. He also has independent industrial experience of 2 years. He worked as a visiting faculty at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan in 1998-99 and also as visiting scientist at Korea Institute of Energy Research, Daejeon, South Korea during 2004-05. Dr. Bhandari guided several graduate and post-graduate students and has worked as a consultant to many industries. He has more than 250 publications/presentations, two books and has filed 26 Patents (11 Patents granted, including US/WO Patents).

Dr. Varaha P. Sarvothaman is a postdoctoral researcher in the Physical Sciences and Engineering Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. He earned his PhD at Queen's University Belfast, where he focused on the characterization of novel vortex-diode based cavitation reactors. His research investigates the harnessing of both acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation for diverse applications, including water treatment, oxidative desulphurization of liquid fuels, and solid-liquid processes.
