The Forbidden Manuscript That Cost Its Author Her Life
On June 1, 1310, Marguerite Porete was burned at the stake in Paris.
Her crime was not a deed, but a book.
The Mirror of Simple Souls was so radical, so dangerously free, that Church authorities attempted to erase it from history. Yet the text survived-copied in secret, translated anonymously, passed hand to hand by those who recognized its truth.
This book is not theology.
It is not doctrine.
It is a map of inner freedom.
Written for seekers who sense that surrender-not effort-is the final path, The Mirror of Simple Souls describes the soul's return to its source, beyond virtue, beyond striving, beyond fear.
What happens to the river when it meets the sea?
It does not disappear.
It loses its narrow banks-and becomes the Ocean.
This is the journey to that Sea of Peace.
A Voice That Refused to SubmitMarguerite Porete was a Beguine-a woman of deep contemplation who lived outside the Church's formal vows. When charged with heresy, she maintained an eighteen-month sovereign silence, refusing to defend herself before inquisitors.
Why?
Because, as her book makes clear, those governed by Reason cannot judge a soul governed by Love.
Her writing unfolds as a sharp and luminous dialogue between Lady Love, Lady Reason, and the Soul itself-revealing a spirituality that bypasses obedience, effort, and self-improvement, and moves instead toward radical inner emptiness.
For over five hundred years, this work survived only in fragments and hidden translations.
Until now.
The 2026 Modernized RestorationThis edition is a carefully modernized restoration of the landmark 1927 English translation by Clare Kirchberger.
It preserves 100% of the original content, metaphors, and theological logic, while removing the barriers of archaic syntax and medieval phrasing. Nothing has been added. Nothing has been softened.
For the first time, Marguerite Porete's voice emerges with clarity, defiance, and startling modern relevance.

This Book Is Not for Everyone
Marguerite Porete warned that everything written about the Divine is "only noise" compared to the lived experience.
This book is not meant to be studied.
It is meant to work on you.

If you are ready to release effort, identity, and control-
to take leave of Reason and enter the life of Freedom-
you are already closer than you think.

and found their home in the Far Night.
