Cultural Psychology of Gender Identity

Giuseppina (Pina) Marsico, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Development and Educational Psychology at the University of Salerno (Italy), Visiting Professor at Ph.D Programme in Psychology, Federal University of Bahia, (Brazil), Associate Professor II at University of Oslo and Associate Researcher at Aalborg University (Denmark). She is Past President of the American Psychological Association-Division 52 Society for a Global Psychology and Past President of the European Society of Psychology Learning and Teaching (ESPLAT). She is Editor-in-chief of the Book Series Cultural Psychology of Education (Springer), Latin American Voices (Springer), co-editor of SpringerBriefs Psychology and Cultural Developmental Sciences (together with Jaan Valsiner), co-editor of Global South Visions (Springer) (togheter with Jaan Valsiner) and Annals of Cultural Psychology: (InfoAge Publishing, N.C., USA). She is also co-editor of Human Arenas (Springer) Trends in Psychology (Springer) and of the Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology. She is the co-founder (together with Jaan Valsiner) of the Global South Network of Cultural Psychology and of the European Hub of Cultural Psychology. She is also the President of the Jaan Valsiner Foundation. University Beyond Borders. Her academic tracks and list of publications include two complementary lines of investigations: 1) an educational-focused research activity where prof. Marsico is the leading figure of the new field of Cultural Psychology of Education that promotes research upon the most innovative and culturally sensitive experiences in psychology learning and teaching worldwide; 2) a cultural oriented interdisciplinary perspective based on both theoretical and empirical investigation, focusing on the borders as a new ontogenetic perspective in psychology and other social sciences. Prof. Marsico has established a new research field called Developmental Mereotopology.   

Maria Virginia Machado Dazzani, Ph.D. is Associate Professor at the Institute of Psychology of the Federal University of Bahia. Bachelor's in Psychology (Universidade Federal da Bahia, 1994), master's in Education (Universidade Federal da Bahia, 2000), Ph.D in Education (Universidade Federal da Bahia, 2004), both with CAPES scholarship. She carried out a research internship (CAPES) from 2002-2003 at Purdue University (Indiana, United States), a postdoctoral internship at Clark University, United States (CAPES / 2009-2010 and CNPq / 2015-2016,), under the supervision of Professor. Dr. Jaan Valsiner and Michael Bamberg, respectively. She is professor in the Programas de Pós-graduação em Psicologia e Educação, both from the Federal University of Bahia, and coordinator of the research group entitled Investigations in Cultural Psychology: Culture, Language, Transitions and Developmental Trajectories (CULTS / UFBA). She is a member of the Center for Studies on Development and Cultural Contexts / CNPq of which she is the leader. She is a member of the School and Educational Psychology WG (ANPEPP) and currently a member of the Springer (New York) Scientific Committee on the Book Series on Cultural Psychology of Education. She has experience in the area of School and Educational Psychology, acting on the following subjects: family-school-community relationship, psychosocial and educational dynamics in contexts of poverty, school complaints, knowledge and learning. Her research experience lies at the interface between Semiotic-Cultural Developmental Psychology and Education. She is interested in the study of development in cultural contexts.
