Walter S. Melion, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Art History at Emory University, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Foreign Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is the author of three monographs, a critical edition of Karel van Mander's Foundation of the Noble, Free Art of Painting, co-author of two exhibition catalogues, editor or co-editor of more than 25 volumes, and has published more than 125 articles.

Michael Zell is Professor of History of Art and Architecture at Boston University. He has published widely on seventeenth-century Dutch artistic culture, with a particular focus on Rembrandt and Vermeer. He is the author of the books Rembrandt, Vermeer, and the Gift in Seventeenth-Century Dutch Art (2021) and Reframing Rembrandt: Jews and the Christian Image in Seventeenth-Century Amsterdam (2002), as well as co-editor with Walter S. Melion of 'Ut pictura amor' The Reflexive Imagery of Love in Artistic Theory and Practice, 1500-1700 (2017) and with Alan Chong of Rethinking Rembrandt (2002).
