Magic, a raven, searching for a killer and chemistry between investigators

Bewertet: eBook (ePUB 3)

Clio is a witch and helping her uncle solving murder cases for Scotland Yard. This time a Viscount was murdered hence Lieutenant General Thomas Grey shall help getting access to the High society and is partnered with Clio. Clio is not happy to work with an outsider as how shall she explain that she can talk with ghosts? Thomas is brooding and after a big scandal not looking forward working with a young woman. Both but heads right from the start but soon none of them can ignore the desire any longer. Can they fight their feelings for each other? Will they solve the murder? This was a nice and easy read. The historical atmosphere is well built. I liked how Clio, her sister, cousin and aunt built a good live for themselves as witches and small coven. All of them have different powers, Clio´s is communicating with the dead and wilding fire. I love her familiar, the raven and the funny situation caused by it. Clio with her 25 years is quite old for that time but living her live exactly as she wants. How she likes to solve murders is nicely written also how her powers are changing. Ghosts can hurt her and since meeting Thomas also her powers are changing. Thomas was part in a huge scandal as his former wife got a divorce due to his actions. He is keeping further secrets and is broody. I like both of them and how they get to know each other, how they work on the case. The mystery has only a small part of the storyline. Here I would have loved having more of it. Too soon and for me a bit too much the feelings between Clio and Thomas changed and we have quite some spice in here including light bondage. For me this took over too much room hence the mystery was pushed aside and then quickly solved. So a nice and easy read when you like the mix of historical, a bit magic, spice and a bit mystery.
