[quotes to come]
In this astonishing mystery, family memoir and cultural history, Karen Liebreich investigates the life of her Aunt Edith, who was murdered in Paris in 1970. Fifty years later, her aunt's studio was discovered, boarded up exactly as she'd left it - and containing forty years of Edith's diaries.
In The Lost Studio, Karen pieces together her aunt's miraculous life, which was shaped by displacement, ambition and the search for belonging. Set against the Nuremberg trials, the rise of the Iron Curtain and the Prague Spring, this is an unforgettable journey through the great upheavals of twentieth-century Europe. In her thirties, Edith became an artist in bohemian Paris, where she brushed shoulders with the likes of Picasso and Man Ray. Until, one night, it was all taken away from her.
Through the rediscovered studio and its amazing contents, The Lost Studio brings an extraordinary artist and the mystery surrounding her murder, vividly to life.
