Die for Me

Julian was such an interesting love interest. There was always something unsettling about him, like a predator hiding behind a beautiful face. But at the same time, he could be incredibly loving and protective towards Sean. Sean was a great protagonist as well. She is intelligent, hardworking and has built a successful career as a Black woman in a field where she had to overcome many obstacles. I liked that the book also explores themes of power, gender and the different expectations society places on people. I also really enjoyed the paranormal elements. Slowly discovering what Julian actually is was one of the most interesting parts of the story. I loved how the author mixed elements that reminded me of classic gothic stories with ideas you often find in the romantasy genre. Somehow, these different influences worked really well together. The plot was not completely unpredictable, especially towards the end, but the writing and the chemistry between Sean and Julian kept me engaged throughout. The romance is a slow burn with a few steamy scenes, although there were fewer than I expected considering the constant tension between them. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely read more from this author.
