⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dystopian dark academy, a girl coming into her own and again a sequel I now have to wait for! Poet, that first name time some time getting used to, enters an elite academy for future leaders, shaped by a father who treated her as less than a commodity, including an arranged marriage to an ally’s insufferable son. Her main struggle - obedience vs. autonomy -drives the story, and refreshingly, her choices remain entirely her own. Rook, the outsider or „solitude“ (dark hair, hazel eyes, scent of green grass and apples), adds tension without overshadowing her agency. Great start, with most mysteries still unresolved. I will probably never learn to only read finished series! At least a star for Teddy and his caretaker!

Ruled by a strict patriarchal elite where the wealthy ruling class dictates society, this futuristic, Venice-like city is plagued by deadly electrical storms. It keeps you on edge — like standing on the cliff's edge for all of humanity. From page one, I was drawn to Poet. Getting to know her, layer by layer, was such a journey — showing us how someone who seems to have the "perfect" life from the outside often hides the truth of what it actually costs to live it. Sometimes a privileged life is really just a gilded cage. She also has a secret, which will put her in danger from the government. The family dynamic gutted me. A controlling parent, indications of physical abuse, and Poet constantly left wondering if she's loved for who she is — or just for what she brings to the table in this society's political chess game. It's heartbreaking. And speaking of chess... enter Rook. He's from the Wastes, painted as this society's enemy — but is he really? His arrival at Amery Academy, a brutal, high-stakes military college, throws everyone off balance, unsettling his classmates in ways that made me immediately suspicious of the narrative they'd all been fed about who the "enemy" actually is. And I am HERE for Poet going against the grain to live the life she actually wants, and looking for answers — despite the personal costs. Watching her question a society that claims to keep everyone safe, but might actually be trapping them? Storm Breaker is a gripping, edge-of-your-seat dystopian about love, control, autonomy, and the terrifying cost of wanting something real and to know the truth.
