A Magical Adventure That Steals Your Heart

Bewertungsnummer: 3155193

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Lena has spent her entire life on the run. In a world where mages are feared, hated, and banished, even the smallest slip could destroy everything. Ever since childhood, she has suppressed her magic out of fear, desperately trying to live a normal life alongside her mother. They finally settle in the massive capital of Otacia but hiding who she truly is also means never truly belonging anywhere. Now sixteen, Lena refuses to learn how to control her powers, terrified that discovery would lead to banishment again. Her mother owns a market stall selling handmade goods, secretly enhanced with tiny traces of magic. The products become so popular that even people from the wealthy inner rings of the city buy them and have them delivered. During one delivery run, Lena is harassed by a group of girls who try to steal her mother’s goods. Knowing failure would have serious consequences for their business, Lena panics and pulls a knife on one of them. The situation is resolved by a young nobleman who witnessed everything, and he offers to help her finish her deliveries on time. By the end of the day, Lena gathers enough courage to ask him to teach her how to fight. She wants to learn how to defend herself without relying on magic. The young man agrees, and in return he asks Lena to show him around the poorer parts of the city. Over the following weeks, they grow close. One day, during a visit to a nearby pond, they are attacked by a group of criminals who followed them into the woods, and Quill ends up killing all three of them. After returning home, Lena finally decides that it is time to learn how to use her magic. They are lucky no one seems to take note of the missing criminals, but the incident also makes Lena realize how little she truly knows about the man she has been falling in love with over the past weeks. After one of their training sessions, she decides to secretly follow him back into the inner ring of the city. Lena is in for a very rude awakening. I absolutely devoured this story. I blasted through this book like crack had been sprinkled between the pages. It’s one of those stories where every chapter pulls you deeper until suddenly it’s 3 a.m. and you physically can’t stop reading. The worldbuilding is immersive without ever feeling overwhelming, and I truly enjoyed entering this vast magical world filled with humans, mages, warlocks, vampires, seers and hidden political intrigue. What surprised me most was how perfectly this book captured the feeling of first love. Lena and Quill’s relationship felt incredibly sweet, tender, and authentic. Their chemistry developed beautifully, and I found myself rooting for them very quickly. At the same time, the story feels like a giant chessboard. Very early on, I realized this was the kind of book where every detail matters. Every conversation, every mystery, every small reveal feels like another chess piece being moved in place. I constantly questioned who was telling the full truth, who was manipulating whom, and what was really happening beneath the surface. And even when I managed to predict certain twists beforehand, the reveals still hit hard. So much of the story feels obvious in hindsight, yet the execution was so good that the emotional payoff still landed like a freight train. Even though the story included a few tropes I normally dislike, I still ended up loving every minute of it. There are so many mysteries left unresolved, and I’m honestly glad I waited this long to pick up this series because the second I finished this book, I immediately needed to continue with book two. And trust me – things escalate fast! Since I’ve already finished the second book as well, let me just say this: what starts as a sweet love story quickly turns into a wild, dark, spicy, and completely addictive adventure. Story: 5 ⭐️ Spice: 1.5
