I finished it and immediately fell into a book hangover. I enjoyed the story so much that if I didn’t already have other books lined up, I’d be rereading it over and over again without shame. I completely fell in love with the characters and the bonds between them. They’re all so precious. What hit me emotionally the hardest was Mal’s growth, especially the way his decision to stop drinking was portrayed. Watching him choose to get better for Griff, and actively commit to change despite the harsh realities of withdrawal, was handled with such care. And the scene where he cut his hair, symbolising his new beginning? It genuinely touched my heart. The whole journey felt raw, honest, and full of hope. And don’t even get me started on the animals. Every single one of them was adorable. The mention of Liam reading children's adventure books to his dog? I melted, it was so adorable. My heart couldn’t take it. In short: I highly recommend this story, especially if you're into emotional damage of the best kind, hard-earned relationships, meaningful character development, and adorable animal companions. And the best part? It's only the beginning, there are even more books planned and I can't wait!
