When book characters come to life

Lesesucht am 02.03.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3063499

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Stella is 30 years old. Her mom left the family several years ago and after her dad passed she now lives in the old family home and works in the library. Her brother left the small town and wants to sell the house and push Stella to do more with her live. All her life she sees words all around her. Thanks to this she finds her elderly, more like a father figure boss in the library when he has health issues. So she stumbles over his big secret. With a special ink he can bring book characters to life and they can walk around for 2 weeks. She stumbles over Jack, a character who was her first crush and the perfect man for her. Soon both can´t deny the attraction but Jack´s time in this world is ticking. I loved the idea of this book but unfortunately this book didn´t work for me. The idea how the book characters come to life, how they walk around is lovely but this too short for me. We mainly ready about Stella´s daily life and at one point the story changed for me more to a self finding book where she finally grows up and makes decisions for her life. With Stella I had my issues. OK she is heartbroken after what happened with her ex but I had the feeling she did not find her place in life at that age. I mean her brother and her boss want to tell her that she needs to make more out of her life. Would she have been a much younger character this would have worked for me better. For me she was too childish. Often I couldn´t understand her behaviour and reactions and I get it that it was used to push the plot in the direction but I didn´t like it. I would have liked a different approach to get to the needed result. Jack is a nicely written character but I could not get a feeling for the two of them as a couple. So for me nice idea but the magic aspect was too small for my liking. I expected something else.
