    Buch (Taschenbuch)

How far would you go to keep your magic?

Rose is only 8 years old when she makes a deal with a Fae to escape the abuse or better from the aunt where she lives, or better this time when she really fears for her live. As a kid she didn´t understand how life altering this was and what it will really cost her. Now years later she is a skilled weaver and works as teacher. She can´t ignore any longer that her magic is waning and causing her heart to hurt when she is weaving. Close to her 21st birthday the Fae from back then shows up to collect the debt. He brings her to the Scottish moors where she is supposed to find an ancient gateway into the realm of the fae. This seems to be an easy task but soon Rose figures out that she is played and used in a game she only starts to understand. She must choose what really matters most for her: Regaining full strength of her magic or people she gets to know who she likes and even starts to fall in love with. I really enjoyed reading this book! The author is creating a really great atmosphere here. First when we start in London of old times where we have some Weavers with magic abilities. Then we come to Scotland and I really enjoyed how the landscape was described. I really had the feeling to be up there in the Scottish moors. The idea of this book is interesting and for me wonderfully woven into a great storyline! I really like that you wonder sometimes who good and bad is and the twists and turns the story makes. I really like that magic is done by weaving. This is new for me and how this is done is a nice and interesting change of other magic books. With Rose I felt right from the start. First we read how hard her live as a small kid is and how cruel her aunt is. I can understand that she makes a deal without really realizing what this means. How she is used, played and manipulated is well written. I liked to read how she starts to understand what is going on and when she is deciding what really matters most for her, what she is really willing to do or not to do to keep her magic. Conrad is a moody character and to learn bit by bit who he is. He never had the chance to decide how his live shall be, this decision is made for him. How both of them get closer, how they fight their feelings for the each other is for me good and believable written. How the Fae play their game by using humans, their scheming is well worked out. I really enjoyed this book and who is looking for a not so typical magical book should check this out!
