"Korean Tales" is a collection of folk tales and stories from Korea compiled and translated by Horace Newton Allen. Horace Newton Allen was an American missionary, diplomat, and author who spent many years in Korea during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Published in 1889, "Korean Tales" presents a selection of traditional Korean folk stories that offer insights into Korean culture, beliefs, and customs. These tales often feature themes such as love, loyalty, honor, and the supernatural. Through these stories, readers can gain a deeper understanding of Korean society and its values during the time period.
Allen's translations of these folk tales helped introduce Korean literature and culture to Western audiences at a time when Korea was relatively unknown outside of East Asia. "Korean Tales" remains a valuable resource for those interested in Korean folklore and literature, providing a glimpse into the rich storytelling tradition of the Korean people.
