Shunned by some, and the authorities, we found our own path and filled the niches left open to us. Life could be tough and unforgiving but this was also a place of opportunity and we would make it our own. Here I look back on the struggles and the achievements that eventually led to us, my friend Jerry and I, and a handful of others earning the self proclaimed title Kings of the Beach. 40 years on Jerry and I still look back on this as 'the best job we've ever had'.
