Amir is a Bengal tiger who lives in the jungle of Nepal. Bengal tigers are the largest Asian cat and have very distinctive marks of orangish brown, black, and gray stripes of fur. No two tigers look alike. Amir was orphaned at a very young age. He has no brothers, sisters, or friends, and lives all alone.
As the story unfolds, he begins making friends who enrich his life in many ways. Strangely, he has no tail, which creates curious questions and even some painful, unkind comments. He becomes the subject of bullying from one animal, and despite Amir and his new friends pleading that the hurtful comments need to stop, he continues to hurt Amir's feelings. Amir cannot understand why anyone would intentionally be so cruel simply because he is different than the other tigers who live in Nepal.
