The perfect cozy fantasy

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

I love cats and I adored the Emily Wilde Series by Heather Fawcett, so her new book Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter was perfect for me.   This book is set in 1920s Montreal, and we follow Agnes who loves cats and founded a rescue organization. I loved seeing her dedication to the cause and seeing a real-life issue in a fantastical world worked so well. She is a woman who follows her heart, is very humble and friendly and you just want to be her friend.   After magicians destroyed her last shop, she’s looking to rebuild the shelter and her new landlord is very mysterious and turns her world upside down. Havelock Renard is none other than the infamous Witch King and he’s such a stark contrast to Agnes. He’s very secluded and only focused on his work.   And these two can help each other and it was always so much fun when they interacted because these two are so unlikely and complement each other perfectly. I loved how these two connected and the scene when Havelock took care of the cats was so funny and heartwarming. You only see little sparks between them, and it fitted this soft story very well. The book just feels like a hug and is perfect to grab a cup of tea and blanket to get immersed in this world.   Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter is the perfect cozy fantasy and trust me you’ll fall in love with this story and all the adorable cats. 5 stars.   (Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an arc.)

Strong and witty characters - humans as well as cats

The story woven by Heather Fawcett is absolutely beautifully written in such a way that it lures you in. She’s created characters with much depth and cleverness to them. Not only do Agnes and Havelock have a strong personality, but also every cat was painted in different shades. I didn’t know cats could be so versatile since I’m arguably not a cat person. However the details made me fall in love with each one of them. Agnes is such an organized, list-loving person while Havelock’s life is a personified mess. Kind of like a mad scientist, he loves experimenting with magic and doesn’t care much about anything else. It was so interesting to see how the two personalities were slowly growing on each other. A little more romance would’ve been nice but honestly, I’m just a sucker for romance. Generally, the book was cozy for sure but the plot capturing nonetheless. It also made me laugh out loud several times since the banter between Agnes and Havelock was impeccable. Even though both of them were completely different, neither of the characters lost themselves or gave up their distinctive awkward traits, it still ended up being a weirdly perfect fit.
