Rising Through the Flames of Crowns

Heat of the Everflame picks up exactly where Glow of the Everflame left off. The story continues the epic development of the series and throws Diem straight into the escalating conflict between the Descended and the mortals she has vowed to protect. Penn Cole once again brings the world of Emarion vividly to life. The politics, magical secrets, and intricate hierarchies feel authentic and layered. In this book, we get to explore new regions, meet different cultures, and uncover hidden intrigues, which adds real depth to the world and keeps the journey of the characters exciting and unpredictable. The setting feels alive, and the stakes feel tangible, making every scene full of tension and wonder. I absolutely love this world—it’s one of the best fantasy realms I’ve had the pleasure of exploring in a long time. Diem’s personal growth in this book is remarkable. She faces challenges that test both her abilities and her morals, and watching her navigate these complex situations was captivating. Her magical skills evolve alongside her emotional resilience, and her internal struggles are portrayed in a way that feels real and compelling. At the same time, some of her decisions frustrated me, especially when she forgives the same villain for the third time despite his repeated attempts to harm her. Those moments made me roll my eyes, but they also underline her complex moral compass and the weight of her responsibilities. The pacing, however, felt a bit uneven at times. Just when the heroes manage to escape a dangerous situation, they are immediately thrust into the next, which occasionally made parts of the story feel long and relentless. Despite this, the tension never fully drops, and the slow buildup between high-action sequences allowed for moments of character introspection that I really appreciated. Other characters also evolve in surprising ways. Taran, for example, reveals a tender and vulnerable side beneath his usual humor and naughty tongue, which added a lot of emotional depth to his role in the story. The relationships between characters (romantic, platonic, and political) are handled with nuance, making interactions feel meaningful and layered rather than predictable. The book ends on another jaw-dropping cliffhanger, leaving me desperate for the fourth and final installment of the Kindred’s Curse series. I’m itching to see whether Diem will finally be able to rule Lumnos in peace or if even greater challenges await her!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    I am so torn.

I opted to 4 stars because : - created world is really interesting. Magic system and idea, realms and the way crowns are passing to new rulers. Another war, but still there is something fresh in it. - Luther Corbois who I don’t find as a typical „shadow daddy” - overpowered, the most handsome dude and of course the chosen to be the best of the bests. And you can say: oh but this is exactly what Luther is! Nope, you have to read to see it’s not ;). - So much action! Which comes with the „torn” for me. Loved it and hate it because of fmc Diem. Sadly, push of the story comes in 90% of the stupid, wrong, annoyingly childish decisions made by Diem. And yes, I get that ! Sometimes it needs to be tragic like that. But not all the time. First part of the third book almost made me DNF. It was so bad it literally hurt. Every stupidity comes with the long explanation of the author why Diem makes this stupid decision, and then long explanation how badly she did because of it. I wanted to scream so many times and trash my kindle into the wall… I will probably finish the series but I am not sure if I will buy paper books for my collection. It could have been amazing, epic story if Diem character would have been conducted differently.
