An engaging and enlightening memoir that recounts the life and career of one of the most versatile and influential dramatists and theatre historians of the early 19th century. With a vivid and entertaining style, Planché takes the readers on a journey through the backstage world of the London theatres, the Royal Court, and the Society of Antiquaries, sharing his personal insights into the art and craft of drama, the politics and pleasures of the cultural elite, and the social and economic changes that transformed the British society. This book is a must-read for theatre aficionados, scholars of the Victorian era, and anyone who seeks inspiration and adventure in their own lives.
