In this work, Edward Copleston, the bishop of Llandaff, responds to criticism of Oxford University that was published in the Edinburgh Review. Copleston defends Oxford against accusations of elitism and lack of scholarship and argues that the university is a vital institution that plays an important role in British society. This book is a fascinating glimpse into the debates and controversies surrounding higher education in the early 19th century.
