Uncover the echoes of ancient Celtic traditions with George Henderson's Survivals in Belief Among the Celts. This scholarly work delves into pre-Christian customs from Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Cornwall, and Brittany, exploring their connections to global traditional cultures. Henderson meticulously reviews authoritative literature, including rare Gaelic texts, to illuminate topics such as the evil eye, geis (taboos), doppelgangers, animal-related beliefs, shape-shifting, lustration, second-sight, and healing rituals. A highlight is the analysis of pagan elements in the Carmina Gadelica, offering a profound understanding of how these ancient beliefs have endured. This book is an essential resource for anyone interested in the depth and resilience of Celtic traditions and their influence on contemporary cultural practices.
