The Bright Sword

I was really excited when i saw this book. I love modern retellings of the arthurtian legend and I'm a huge fan of The Magicians. So I expected this book to be a great combination of the two. I was looking forward to an ironic sense of humor and a sympathetic cast of diverse and flawed characters, and although it was all there it did not quite click for me. The pacing was disruptive and although I liked to hear all of the characters backstories I would have enjoyed it more if it had been intagrated into the narrative more organicly. I think the book gives an interesting and realistic view on the time and topics like knighthood, religion and the british empire. I think other people might enjoy it if they like the writing style of Legends and retellings in a classical sense.
