Geoffrey Oliver Deacon, known to friends and enemies alike as GOD, has just completed five years at the Isaac Newton Academy of Spatial Relativity otherwise referred to as INSAR. GOD, or Ollie as he prefers to be known, is a midshipman with a secret. If it becomes known, it will affect how his senior officers and the love of his life Joan, see him. They will all have to know one day, but first, he has to complete his apprenticeship as a midshipman, on board the largest passenger liner ever built, Cunard's King Charles the fourth. He is pitted against the Second Officer, a cruel and heartless individual whose main objective is to give "Ollie," a life of hell. Donald Oscar Green, someone else whose parents lacked in intelligence when naming their son, forever know as DOG, looked on Ollie with a malevolence that was both frightening and threatening. To Ollie, it promised to be an interesting fifteen months spent out in the Solar System with Geriatric, filthy rich passengers for company, and a sociopath for a boss. Ollie didn't really mind, The King Charles was a means to an end, and his time on board a learning curve. His future was assured, or so he thought, then he met Joan, and the future stood on its head. If she discovered the secret he was hiding from everyone on board, it could very well end his career and his blossoming love life. Being a Midshipman was not going to be easy, becoming an officer was going to be even harder. With a name like GOD it might just prove impossible. Maybe the Ganymede Nose Worm can help?
