Seit ich Raybearer zum ersten Mal las, bin ich ein riesiger Fan von Jordan Ifueko. Als ich hörte, dass es ein neues Buch aus dem Raybearer-Universum geben sollte, musste ich es natürlich direkt vorbestellen. The Maid and the Crocodile spielt zeitlich nach der Raybearer-Dilogie und dieses Mal ist der Hauptcharakter ein Mädchen, das nichts mit den Herrscherinnen und Herrschern des Landes, also den Charakteren, die wir schon kennen, gemeinsam hat. Sade hat eine Behinderung, ist arm und wird aus dem Waisenhaus in die weite Welt entlassen. Auf der Suche nach einem Job und einem Dach über dem Kopf wird ausgerechnet ein Gott auf sie aufmerksam und geht ihr mit seinem Gerede über Revolution und die Verhältnisse der Arbeiterklasse ganz schön auf die Nerven.
Die Geschichte ist inspiriert von Howl's Moving Castle, Fans davon werden mit dem Buch glücklich. Man kann das Buch lesen ohne vorher Raybearer gelesen zu haben, es enthält allerdings Spoiler für die Raybearer-Dilogie!
