Paladin’s Hope is a cute, heartfelt fantasy romance that blends mystery, danger, and emotional depth with Kingfisher’s trademark wit. The story follows Galen, a melancholy paladin, and Piper, a careful and competent lich-doctor, as they become entangled in a disturbing case involving mutilated bodies and a deadly underground maze. I absoloutely loved the chemisty between Galen and Piper. Their relationship develops with warmth and tension, and both characters feel vivid, vulnerable, and believable. Kingfisher also gives the world a strong sense of texture, especially through the presence of the gnoles and the book’s eerie, puzzle-like adventure elements.
