The Last Hero

Since this is the final book in the series, let me just say: genuine thanks to past-me for deciding to read books in English - I‘m afraid I might’ve missed out on The First Sister otherwise. The first book had me at the edge of my seat basically all throughout, while book 2 ended with me being a sobbing mess. For that alone, The First Sister trilogy will remain one of my favourites. If you like your SciFi action-filled and incredibly queer, I am begging you to read the series. Even better: Linden A. Lewis knows how to create tight interpersonal relationships, sometimes even without the characters meeting much. For me the best part of the series, despite this also usually resulting in me having a heavy heart. (Not even exaggerating.) As for the third book, it’s not my favourite of the series. Book 2 remains unbeaten for me. What I struggled with a bit in book 3 was that it felt a bit all over the place. I can’t put my finger on it exactly, and I understand why so much was going on. But the structure of the previous books felt a bit more cohesive. That being said, do I still randomly start thinking about the story, the characters? Do I sometimes burst into tears when that happens? Yes to both. If a series manages to capture you that much and permanently take up space in your mind - that can’t be anything but a win for me.
