Listen, I love a good dark romance. I can handle morally gray love interests, I can handle twisted revenge plots, I can even handle a little bit of “I hate you but I want you” energy. But Corrupt? This one had me side-eyeing every single page like, girl, run. Let’s start with the biggest issue—why on earth was she into him? Michael spends 90% of this book mistreating her, and she just sits there like “Wow, I’ve never wanted him more”. Ma’am?? He literally terrorizes you, gaslights you, and treats you like a pawn in his psycho revenge game. I kept waiting for the bare minimum of emotional depth, but nope—just more man pain and dubious-to-no-consent scenes that we’re apparently supposed to find sexy. Spoiler: they’re not. And the revenge plot? Unhinged. These guys are out here acting like she ruined their lives when in reality, they just needed therapy and maybe a new hobby outside of bullying a girl who did nothing wrong. The level of obsession they have with making her suffer? Weird. Like, sir, what if you just… moved on? Got a job? Found a constructive way to handle your misplaced anger? No? Okay, cool. I kept waiting for some sort of redemption—maybe a turning point where Michael realizes he’s been a complete trash bag of a person and actually earns her love. Instead, we just get more toxicity, more manipulation, and somehow, she still wants him. I get that some people eat this up, and if that’s you—live your truth. But for me? I need my dark romance to have at least a shred of mutual respect, because this wasn’t love—it was just control.
