Die Waise Violet rettet mit elf Jahren den jungen Prinzen Cyrus vor dem Tod und wurde somit zur königlichen Prophetin. Doch der König nutzt ihre Gabe oft und zwingt sie zum Lügen, damit er seinen Willen bekommt. Cyrus läßt keinen Zweifel daran, dass er das nicht akzeptiert und Violet vom Hof entfernt. Dafür hasst Violet ihn. Sieben Jahre später wird eine dunkle Prophezeihung ihrer Vorgängerin so extrem missbraucht, dass sie wahr wird und so muss Violet entscheiden, auf welches Pferd sie setzt, die Stimme in ihrem Träumen, den König oder dem Prinzen, dessen Anziehung sie immer weniger widerstehen kann. Wir folgen nur Violet, was ausreicht, denn alle anderen Figuren kann man auch so gut verstehen. Violet ist zielstrebig, ehrgeizig, skrupellos und will überleben. Sie ist kein netter Mensch und schämt sich auch nicht dafür. Cyrus ist ein guter Mensch, mit einer Schwäche, er glaubt an die Liebe und sträubt sich daher gegen alles. Seine Schwester Camilla ist verschwenderisch und unfähig zu regieren. Nur der gemeinsame beste Freund Dante hat etwas verstand und versucht alle auf den rechten Weg zu führen. Dadurch, dass keiner die Wahrheit sagt, hat die „Königin der Nacht“ ein leichtes Spiel und das, obwohl einige Figuren um die Manipulation wissen. Die Anziehung zwischen Violet und Cyrus ist greifbar, auch wenn Violet das nicht wahrhaben will. Der innere Twist ist gut beschrieben und das Einzige, was mir an Violet wirklich gefällt. Sie will Cyrus hassen, aber ihr Körper so gar nicht. Und wie sie das verwirrt, macht Spaß. Ansonsten haben wir ein Buch über Manipulation, der Kampf gegen das Schicksal und einen netten Einsatz von Märchenelementen. Aber es ist nicht einfach zu lesen und die Hälfte der Zeit möchte man die Figuren einfach nur schütteln, aber genau das macht das Buch aus, dass alles eben so schwer und kompliziert ist.

Of course, is this only my personal opinion on the book and just because I give this rating to the book doesn’t mean, that everyone will have that opinion. I received this ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own! This book immediately gave me Cardan and Jude in Wicked King Vibes and I am here for it! But please don’t mistake this comparison for lack of originality. This story is still fantastic on its own. The writing style is comfortable and easy to read. I would say that you can also read this book if English is not your native language and you want to dip your foot into reading English fantasy. I really enjoyed my reading time. I had some problems with the world-building at the beginning. The world is not overly complex like a high fantasy book, but I like to know where I am while reading, so: Thanks for the map! The plot was really good and fast-paced and if I didn’t need sleep that night, I would have devoured it in one sitting. I like the characters a lot, especially Violet, because she is a strong female protagonist, who isn’t a mindless mess in terms of men. Yes, there is some spice in this book but nothing overly erotic so I think it still fits into the YA Genre. I am excited for the next book in this duology and also to see what other book ideas Gina Chen will come up with. Conclusion Perfect for Fans of Cruel Prince in need of a nice Enemies to Something Fantasy Story.
