Belladonna The addictive and mysterious gothic fantasy romance not to be missed

Ich liebe Gothic Fantasy! Das hat mir Belladonna mal wieder gezeigt. Düster, etwas gruselig und ein spannendes murder mystery... so würde ich das Buch beschreiben. Ich mochte Adalyns Schreibstil sehr! Er war sehr originell und von der ersten Seite an fesselnd. Es wird sicher nicht mein letztes Buch von ihr sein. Signa war eine unfassbar spannende und besondere Protagonistin. Sie hatte einen interessanten und vielfältigen Charakter und war einfach mal erfrischend anders. Sie ist mutig, sehr schlau und neugierig. Sie hat eine besondere Gabe und kann Geister/Seelen und den Tod höchstpersönlich sehen und mit ihnen kommunizieren. Ich mochte es sehr, wie der Tod und generell das ganze Thema beschrieben wurde. Ich mochte ihn als Charakter tatsächlich sehr gerne und konnte auch die Verbindung zwischen Signa und ihm sehr nachvollziehen. Blythe war eine großartige Nebenfigur! Sie hat mir sehr leid getan. Sie hatte es nicht leicht durch ihre Krankheit, aber sich nie von ihr kaputt machen lassen. Ich fand es toll, dass Signa sich dem Mysterium um den Tod von Blythes Mutter, Lillian, und der Krankheit von Blythe angenommen hat. Das Setting war sehr düster. Die Geschichte spielt fast nur auf Thorn Grove, einem alten viktorianischen Haus, wo Signas Verwandschaft, und nun auch sie, wohnt. Die Geschichte spielte ca um 1850 und gerade das machte auch den Charme der Geschichte aus. Das Murder Mystery war unglaublich spannend. Jedes Mal, wenn ich eine Vermutung hatte, wurde sie widerlegt und das Ende habe ich absolut nicht kommen sehen. Ich kann Belladonna sehr empfehlen, für alle die es düster und anders mögen. Ich bin gespannt auf Foxglove, den zweiten Band der Reihe!

It took me by surprise – and I liked it so much! Belladonna – I thought it would be a fantasy story taking place some centuries ago and telling the reader about a poor girl becoming rich. I even presumed that the obsolete part such as etiquette rules would bore me, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Instead, I read a novel about a thrilling crime, a dramatically divided family, a girl who cannot die, and about death itself. Adalyn Grace has a great writing style, describing the scenes in detail but never too dissolute and the criminal puzzle laid out in front of us made me read through the book as fast as possible. In addition, I started to admire Signa because of her strength, her independence, her intelligence, and her ability to love. For a girl of that time period, she is truly unique and a role model. Her inability to die made the whole story even more interesting, of course and made me think about death and the life afterwards. However, Adalyn Grace really knows how to give the reader place to think about his own assumptions and for that I appreciate the book. We always consider death to be cruel or brutal, but how could we know that? The death we learn about in Belladonna is not like that and I began to question my own opinion about death while I read the book. I could recommend this novel to everyone, because I think that every person would find something in the story to like. It may be the love, the puzzle, the historic contents, the humorous characters, the fantastic part or the philosophy about death. I have loved the book for all of it and you might do the same too.

The idea of the story is really interesting and as readers we are gently introduced into the world and the characters. We only have Signa's POV and her inner monologue, which helps us understand her actions. Signa needs to solve a muder mystery and stop another death from happening, while simulateously just wanting to attend balls, gossip over tea and meet suitable young men. At the beginning of the story Signa was kind of naive and self-centered, which changes during the story as she undergoes a nicely written character development. The mystery is not too straigthforward and I could not predict all twists that happened. I really liked the book and enjoyed the well written story.

"Because I have waited an eternity to meet you, Signa Arrow" - S. 331 Okay, ich hatte an das Buch Erwartungen. Wer hat die nicht, dass Buch sieht man auf deutsch und englisch überall. Signa ist ein eigenes Mädchen. Geächtet und auf sich gestellt. Death Naja Tod ist der Tod oder nicht? Ach was soll ich sagen, es war nicht schlecht. Die Interaktionen mit dem Tod, seiner Art seinem Charakter und Ansichten hat mir so gut gefallen. Auch der mystery Anteil war nicht schlecht. Es nur einfach nicht klick gemacht und Signa war mir ab einem Punkt auch ein zu stur in ihrer Sichtweise. Nichts desto trotz hat das ganze einen tollen gothik vibe mit verrat und Witz. Man kann es gut lesen und erlebt was.

I found the book very interesting and exciting. Even though there weren't many romantic scenes at the beginning, I could hardly stop reading. Great book! I would definitely recommend!
