This volume explores how the two philosophical traditions
interact with Heidegger in their confrontation of the contemporary
philosophical issue. By communicating the reception of Heidegger
in China and Japan, we initiated a double transcendence of cultural
boundaries – both East-West and Chinese-Japanese. This double
transcendence offers an intercultural and inter-historical context for
the hermeneutic of philosophies. The essays chosen to be published in
this volume significantly demonstrated how Heidegger’s philosophy
continues to provoke new questions and insights amidst intercultural
conversation. Most of these questions and insights are shown to be
visible only within the intercultural context, and yet are closely related
to the contemporary global world.
