Loved everything about this book! The fantastic illustrations with their expressive portrayal of the mice and other animals brought to life each feeling and thought perfectly. The story was bleak and filled with dangers, but also always with a glimmer of hope that in the end things would turn out right for the starving colony of mice, which have to decide whether to stay in their old home and probably starve, or take the risk to leave and try their luck elsewhere. One group is determined to go to the city, but isn't that too dangerous? There might be harmful animals and remnants of the disease that seemed to have removed all human life from earth. Maybe the forests? But there lurk other dangers with huge fangs and an even larger hunger... Wix is the small but brave hero of this tale, who sets out as a scavenger for food for the colony. But his group is led into a trap and Wix can barely escape. Fighting cats, wolves and birds of prey, Wix not only has to survive for himself, but rescue every mouse in his colony. A very impressive post-apocalyptic survival story with the cutest and bravest furry hero.
