The God of Endings

Anna, who is now known as Collette, runs a little school in upstate New York, teaching the children how to paint, all while avoiding (or trying to, at least) any kind of deeper relationships and hiding her secret - she has been alive since the 1800s. While a little blood has been enough to sustain her all these years, things are changing and she finds herself hungrier and more afraid of the God of Endings than ever before... I have seen that people have been comparing this to 'The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue' and I certainly think that this book will appeal to readers who have enjoyed the former. However, I found myself liking this story even more. The pain that comes with being forced to live forever leaps off the page constantly and in a very intense way - it is sad and it is bittersweet, especially in the moments the protagonist remembers her father and other people she has loved and lost over time. The story jumps between the present in the 1980s and the past. This is very well done, as the chapters are short and stay engaging throughout the whole book. The writing is beautiful as well, it effortlessly conjures images, emotions and an eerie atmosphere. Even though it's more than 400 pages long, I could have easily stayed within this story for a little while longer!
