I love the idea of a contemporary, diverse Pride & Prejudice retelling. Liza is a very likable character and so is her counterpart Dorsey. You do not often see Filipino MCs in books, this is why I was positively surprised when I realized that Dorsey is a Filipino adopted by rich white parents. Both of them have their own prejudices which keeps them from finding their happiness. Gentrification plays an important part in this retelling. Liza's family, the Bennetts, are a real chaotic, sometimes embarrassing, but lovely family. Women power! What I did not like so much was the ending of the book. Not every happy ending has to end with marriage and a pregnancy. I would have preferred a more contemporary, not so traditional ending as Liza sees herself as a modern feminist and justice fighter. It would have been nice to see how she makes her own way, how she thrives.
I recommend this cute romcom for all Jane Austen fans!
