Against the authors statments do many readers see a slavery allegory in this short story, and that is really telling given this is a story about putting a boy in a girls position. About the circumstances and pressures factoring into submitting into a partnership and carry anothers legacy at the risk of death and suffering. How many love stories really are not about love at all and how we would see a lot of things thay were normal or still are in a very different light, if it where not men doing it to women.
This is not a read for anyone being squeemish and as a short story requires you to fill in blanks foe the full experience.
I personaly loved it!
