    screaming, crying, throwing up

    I mostly chose the book based on its cover, so I dove into the story completely unaware of what to expect. Since then, I've been meaning to read more works by C. S. Pacat! It's been quite a while since I read a fantasy novel that truly captivated me and left me torn, crying and staring at a wall (- especially with THAT cliffhanger. I’d recommend having the second volume ready (thank me later <3))! The dark plot immediately pulls you in, encouraging you to uncover the secrets of this fantasy world. Just when you think you've understood the characters and the storyline, everything suddenly takes a completely different turn. || • atmospheric set in london around 1820 • dark vs light • chosen one • found family • enemies to lovers (the slow burn is slow burning) • queer

    big freaking (positive) UFF!

    Loved the world building and all of the characters except for maybe one! The plot twist was not as unexpected but that did not make the story any less good to me it just made the whole journey even more enjoyable! The end actually made me curse out loud because it ended at such a tricky part and I wanted to know how this whole story goes on! Thankfully I bought both of the books together and can read right on. Waiting for the second one would have probably killed me! I especially loved the strange and somewhat spicy tension between James and Will. Its like...nothing REALLY happens while at the same time A LOT happens! ♥

    Sehr spannend

    Mir persönlich hat es sehr gefallen. Die Charaktere sind gut verfasst, die Atmosphäre ist passend. Der Schreibstil ist sehr angenehm und flüssig zu lesen. Am Anfang vielleicht ein bisschen verwirrend, aber im Laufe des Buches macht alles Sinn und "die lösen Fäden verknüpfungen sich"

    She did it again!!

    Nach der Captive prince Reihe musste ich einfach auch ihr aktuellstes Buch lesen und ich bereue nichts. Zu Beginn war ich ein wenig unbeeindruckt, jedoch haben mit die komplexen Figuren und ihre Beziehungen untereinander interessiert. Nachdem aber einige Twists die Story fast schon auf den Kopf gedreht haben, brauchte ich nach dem Lesen einige Tage um alles zu verdauen. Pacat ist wirklich gut in dem was sie tut und derzeit eine meiner Lieblingsautor*innen! Ich kann auch dieses Buch nur empfehlen und zähle nun die Tage bis zum Release der Fortsetzung.

    Beautiful Dark Fantasy, ready for Pt. 2

    I absolutely adore the writing of Pacat - it keeps me on edge the whole book through! From theme to characters and story the story exeeded my expectations of what a good book ought to be. By questioning categories of not only good and evil but also what the readers expect from certain character types, Pacat manages to create an outstanding Dark Fantasy World. I am looking forward to part two, Dark Heir, which will hopefully continue as straongly as this one!
