Beautiful and hard to put down

A fantasy story inspired by Chinese mythology, with a lovely female heroine. The setting is beautiful, above the mortal realm, you find the magical Celestial kingdom with other realms of immortals and the moon, where young Xingyin grows up peacefully with her loving mother and a doting servant. Until one day, when Xingyin has to flee and suddenly has to look after herself, and so many things happen, good and bad, and Xingyin grows into an amazing, strong, and clever warrior. It's like a rollercoaster ride, up and down and breathtakingly captivating.

    Beautiful and wondrous

I have to say, at first I was dissapointed how naive and childish the story/perspective of the MC was written. But then, I was drawn in by the story nonetheless. Emotions and surroundings are truly beautifully described. It really spoke to my inner child. Yes, I do think the plot contains little realism but mind you it is a fantasy book. If you need an enthralling escape from reality and heal your inner child, then this is a book I would recommend.

    very wholesome

After I had finished this book I was not sure if the next ones on my reading list could come to this satisfaction (and I was right). The beginning may not be the best but it sure was worth keeping on reading. It was nice to have a character that sticks to their goal and doesn´t need to be safed all the time by someone else. For me it was a rather wholesome reading experience, partly because it´s different from the ones usually found on the fantasy bookshelfs in European book stores.

    Wunderschön!

"Daughter of the Moon Goddess" hat mich verzaubert.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

A Celestial Tale of Love and Destiny

"Daughter of the Moon Goddess" is a sweeping, fairy-tale–like fantasy that captivates with poetic prose, emotional depth, and an exquisitely atmospheric world. Sue Lynn Tan crafts a mesmerizing realm inspired by Chinese mythology—rich with magic, immortals, dragons, and celestial intrigue—into which the reader effortlessly drifts. Xingyin is an extraordinary heroine: courageous, steadfast, and profoundly human. Her determination to free her mother from eternal exile forms the emotional heart of the story, while trials, political machinations, and perilous quests shape her growth with compelling nuance. Particularly striking is the novel’s delicate balance between high-stakes action, courtly intrigue, and a quiet, yearning romance that never feels ornamental. Instead, it deepens the characters’ inner conflicts and emotional resonance. Tan’s prose is vivid and elegant—almost lyrical—yet never at the expense of momentum. Battles, challenges, and shifting alliances unfold seamlessly, creating a layered narrative that stirs both heart and imagination. Though the world is opulent and expansive, the story remains intimate and accessible. An atmospheric and profoundly moving beginning that masterfully intertwines mythology and fantasy.
