Am I turning into a sci-fi girly?
Me enjoying and actually loving a sci-fi book was definitely NOT on my bingo card this year. "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir starts with a disorientated protagonist. Ryland Grace, our main character, awakes in a space unknown to him. He doesn't remember who he is, where he is and how he got to where he is. Slowly but steadily, Ryland and we learn all these questions, and everything starts to make sense. I don't want to say more about the plot because I also dove in blindly, and it actually made me enjoy the book even more. What I do want to say is that this is an amazing book. I'm not big on sci-fi or fantasy, but this book changed my mind. It was funny, it was interesting, it was thrilling and it was sad. It had everything that made me want to read more. I read it together with a very good friend of mine, and that made the experience even more pleasurable. If you are not into sci-fi, read this book! If you love sci-fi, read this book! If you are looking for the next book for your book club, look no further; read this book! Under any circumstances, read this book! -

Another masterpiece by Andy Weir
Ryland Grace wakes up alone and without any memories to his previous life. Bit for bit the reader and the protagonist find out where he is and what happened to get him on board of a spaceship on an apparent suicide mission to save the Earth. The story is told in two narratives - on Earth in the past and on board of the „Hail Mary“ in the present. Like Mark Watney in „The Martian“ Ryland Grace is a lone astronaut who tries to solve his problems with lots of humour and especially lots of scientific knowledge. And like „The Martian“ „Project Hail Mary“ is a wonderfully written and extremely exciting Science-Fiction novel. My favourite book of 2021!
