A Cosy Christmas at Bridget's Bicycle Bakery

3,5 Stars A Christmas book which leaves you very snug and comfy after reading it (preferably with a mug of hot cocoa or mulled wine by your side, just like our protagonist Bridget likes to have ready at hand). It's full of community spirit, of new hope after a heavy loss, it's about making the most of it when you have not much left and about cherishing the moment and the little things. A tiny bit it's also about finding a new love, but especially this thread of the story was not so well done in my opinion. Jack and Bridget both fell in 'love at first sight', but I didn't feel them together at all. The romantic part was missing, also due to the fact that a large part of the story is dedicated to other issues in Bridgets life. I did like those other issues, especially how she was welcomed by the people in Mulberry-on-sea and how she started her bakery business (with the help of her kids). But of course, lots of all that was also a bit too good to be true, too many lucky breaks. I tend to overlook those overly kitschy things in Christmas themed books more easily than in other books, and the same is true here - but sometimes I really had to roll my eyes. Nevertheless, I really would like to follow up Bridgets story in the next book, which is already advertised at the end of the book.
