One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn't see coming...

'Her best yet' Taylor Jenkins Reid, Malibu Rising
'One of my favourite authors' Colleen Hoover, It Ends With Us
'Magical, delightful, and utterly one of a kind' Ali Hazelwood, The Love Hypothesis

Nora is a cut-throat literary agent at the top of her game. Her whole life is books.

Charlie is an editor with a gift for creating bestsellers. And he's Nora's work nemesis.

Nora has been through enough break-ups to know she's the one men date before finding their happy-ever-after. To prevent another dating dud, Nora's sister has persuaded her to swap her city desk for a month's holiday in Sunshine Falls.

It's a small town straight out of a romance novel, but instead of meeting sexy lumberjacks, handsome doctors or cute bartenders, Nora keeps bumping into...Charlie.

She's no heroine. He's no hero. So can they take a page out of an entirely different book?

Brimming with witty banter, characters you can't help but fall for and off-the-charts chemistry, BOOK LOVERS is Emily Henry's best novel yet.

--------

'Emily Henry's books are a gift, the perfect balance between steamy and sweet' V. E Schwab, Gallant

'So smart, so funny, so sexy' Beth O'Leary, The No-Show

'Emily Henry has another hit on her hands' Sophie Cousens, Just Haven't Met You Yet

'A thoroughly modern yet classic romance' Sunday Times

'Heartfelt, funny, and full of joy. (Also, three cheers for Nora's super-relatable bangs journey!)' Tia Williams, Seven Days in June

'The master of witty repartee' Daily Mail

'Super fun, sassy, smart, sexy... Emily Henry is now an auto-buy author for me' Red Magazine

'Book Lovers is Schitt's Creek for book nerds' Casey Mcquiston, One Last Stop

'The most phenomenal portrayal of enemies to lovers I have ever read. . .'
Laura Jane Williams, Our Stop

I am not convinced

Nicol am 28.06.2022

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I started reading this book because it had so many good reviews and I got really excited. But as it turns out, this was a complete fail for me. Everything felt rushed for me, I didn't feel like the characters were interesting and they jumped from one thing to another. The plot was a big questionmark for me, the only thing I kind of liked was the ending. But other than that a big NO from me.

Emily Henry - Book Lovers

Nora Stephens, in the book industry also known as “shark”, is a successful New York agent whose life is dedicated to her job. Accordingly, relationships have not been that successful so far, but that’s ok for her. When her sister Libby asks her for a four-week stay in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, the place where one of her best-selling books is located, Nora is reluctant, she cannot stay away from work so long; yet, Libby is pregnant and Nora does not want to refuse her sister’s greatest wish, she is the only family she has. Nora knows all the stories about New Yorkers coming to small towns and falling in love, she has read them all, even published some of them, therefore, she can only ironically comment the fact that on her first day, she runs into Charlie Lastra – her biggest nemesis. Admittedly, I am not really a fan of rom-coms, no matter if they come in form of books or movies. However, I really enjoyed Emily Henry’s “Beach Read” and as there was so much talk about “Book Lovers”, I was looking forward to reading it. Of course, the bestselling author did not disappoint, quite the contrary, I thoroughly enjoyed how she does not take the genre too seriously but lets her characters comment on it mockingly again and again throughout the novel. “We know how this ends.” Libby squeezes my arm. “You don’t know. You can’t until you try.” “This isn’t a movie, Libby,” I say. You do not need to find the typical tropes, Nora will find them for you and Emily Henry does not leave out a single one: the big city girl who looks down in small town life, the sister who mysteriously vanishes during daytime and does not tell what is doing or where she is going, the incidental meeting with the one man she does not want to see far away from home, the charming bookshop, cringeworthy small town activities, another attractive man – who does not like the first, of course – you name it. Even though there are no big surprises, I totally enjoyed diving into the story and seeing all the clichés unfold. As a book lover, it was easy to fall for this one, a lot of references and hints to the industry offer the perfect setting for the two protagonists to fight their feelings which, needless to say, they cannot admit at first. Another perfect summer read by Emily Henry.

Highly Entertaining Rom-Com

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Since „People We Meet on Vacation“ blew up on TikTok, Emily Henry has become kind of a household name in the rom-com-reader community. Luckily for us, „Book Lovers“ is just as amazing as her previous books and bound to melt hearts. Nora Stephens is a successful literary agent and therefore very familiar with every trope that can be found under the sun. If she were to describe herself as a character from a rom-com, she’d say she’s the cold-hearted, cutthroat girlfriend the hero leaves for the small-town girl he just fell madly in love with. In fact, it has happened before. When her sister proposes a get-away to a sleepy little town in the middle of nowhere, Nora reluctantly agrees. Libby is set on finding Nora her own whirl-wind romance for once, but the only one Nora keeps bumping into is a grumpy editor from back in the city who doesn’t exactly fit the bill… „Book Lovers“ isn’t the first book I’ve read of this author, so I kind of knew what to expect from this book…or so I thought. Emily Henry’s latest novel more than exceeded my expectations. To be honest, most of the storyline is pretty predictable, but there are still some twists to be found that make for nice surprises. What I really loved about this book are the characters and their interactions. Each and every character is interesting in their own right, but when they come together, they are simply amazing. I love that there’s a big focus on the sisterly bond between Nora and Libby and how well it is portrayed. I got very invested in their relationship and really wanted to find out what was causing their recently experienced feeling of distance. The thing I enjoyed most about Nora and Charlie’s interactions were their frequently hilarious conversations. Both of them are very quick-witted and their banter is just delightful. Also, I found it refreshing that the author chose to create characters whose ultimate goal isn’t to have 2.4 children and a house with a picket-fence in the suburbs. If you are looking for a romantic comedy that not only will make you laugh, but also keep you invested from page one, you should definitely read „Book Lovers“. If books about books, family bonds and strong female leads are after your fancy, even better.
