Children are more susceptible to seizures than adults as in the developing brain the excitatory response is developed prior to the development of inhibitory response, resulting in an increased excitation and production of seizures. Neonatal seizures are frequently associated with motor and cognition disabilities and pose an increased risk of early death. An extensive knowledge about the etio-pathogenesis of the disease is essential in order to provide adequate treatment, which should be aimed at reducing the risk of death and preventing development of disabilities in such children.
