Power, ideas, and faith collide. In this classic Prussian history edition by one of Europe's most formidable monarchs, Frederick II, later hailed as Frederick the Great, surveys the rise of his dynasty from its earliest medieval roots to the death of Frederick I in Memoirs Of The House Of Brandenburg, offering a rare fusion of royal memoir and history from inside the ruling house of Prussia and Brandenburg. Balanced between narrative and reflection, the volume concludes with four striking Enlightenment era political essays: a sharp superstition and religion critique; a study of enlightenment manners and customs, industry, and the progress of human understanding in the arts and sciences; an examination of Brandenburg government and law; and a meditation on the reasons states enact and repeal legislation. Together they illuminate the ideas that shaped early modern Prussia history and the making of a military and administrative power. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. Long valued as a primary source for historians and for students of Enlightenment political thought, it also speaks to general readers drawn to character, power, and ideas. Essential for any Frederick the Great works collection or enlightenment classics collection, it offers an intimate, lucid window onto monarchy, faith, law, and reform at a pivotal moment in European history.
