Since the blurb is a bit misleading, be warned that this book "just" retells the story of season 2 (while also including some new backstory for Max.) I might have given this book a 5/5 if I'd known that beforehand. I really like the Stranger Things novels. As a huge Stranger Things fan I like to suck up all the additional information, but even though Runaway Max was well written, I think it's the weakest Stranger Things book I've read so far. All the other novels tell their own stories, have their own plot, and yes, it was interesting to read Season 2 from Max' perspective, but I would have liked it better to read a story I didn't know already. I did on the other hand really enjoy the bits of backstory here and there. So if you're a fan of Stranger Things and especially Max, give this book a try. It wasn't the most interesting to me (since I already knew 80% of the story from the series), but I did enjoy reading it.
