"Betty" behandelt Rassismus mit einem Fokus auf die Ureinwohner Amerikas und die Nachfolgen der Kolonialisierung, unter denen diese immer noch leiden, genauso wie sexuelle Gewalt, Mobbing, mental health und Inzest und man sollte sich vor dem Lesen auf jeden Fall mit potentiellen Triggern außeinandersetzen. Das klingt jetzt ziemlich krass (und das war es auch), aber ich fand es gleichzeitig unglaublich wichtig zu lesen. Außerdem war Bettys Jugend nicht nur von negativen Erlebnissen geprägt, vor allem die liebevolle Beziehung zu ihrem Vater und ihren Schwestern, aber auch die zu ihren jüngeren Brüdern wurde gezeigt. Mein Fazit: harte Kost, aber lesenswert!

educational about the Cherokee history and gives you a new feeling of respect and understandment towards the culture. A story about powerful women fighting against racism and sexism and a father being the perfect representer of fatherhood, magic, love, and the importance of remembrance. This book is filled with grief and also the beauty of life. (check trigger warnings)
