Recollections of the Civil War is a historical book written by Charles Anderson Dana in 1898. The book is a memoir of the author's experiences during the American Civil War, where he served as a journalist and a staff officer for the Union Army. In this book, Dana provides an insightful and detailed account of his interactions with the leaders of the Union Army, including President Abraham Lincoln, General Ulysses S. Grant, and General William T. Sherman. He also describes his experiences on the battlefield, including the battles of Bull Run, Antietam, and Gettysburg. The book is divided into three parts, with the first part covering Dana's experiences in Washington D.C. during the early years of the war. The second part focuses on his time as a staff officer for General Grant, and the final part covers his experiences with General Sherman during the Atlanta Campaign. Overall, Recollections of the Civil War is a fascinating and informative account of one man's experiences during one of the most significant events in American history. It provides readers with a unique perspective on the war, and offers a glimpse into the lives of the leaders who helped shape the country's future. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
