The Girl Who Sat By The Ashes is a novel written by Padraic Colum and published in 1919. The story is set in Ireland and follows the life of a young girl named Mary who is forced to live with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters after her father dies. Mary is treated as a servant in her own home and is often forced to sit by the ashes of the fireplace, hence the title of the book.Despite her difficult circumstances, Mary is a kind and gentle soul who finds solace in nature and the stories told by her grandmother. One day, she meets a mysterious stranger who offers her a chance to attend a royal ball where she can meet the prince and potentially change her life forever.Throughout the novel, Mary faces many challenges and obstacles, but she never loses her kind spirit and determination to overcome them. The Girl Who Sat By The Ashes is a heartwarming tale of hope, perseverance, and the power of kindness. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
