The Pets is a novel written by Henry Wallace Phillips and first published in 1906. The story follows the lives of a group of animals living in a New York City pet shop. The main characters are a dog named Jerry, a cat named Tom, a parrot named Polly, and a monkey named Jocko. The animals are all owned by the pet shop owner, Mr. Smith, who treats them well and takes care of them. The novel is divided into several chapters, each focusing on a different animal and their adventures. Jerry, the dog, is the main character and is often the leader of the group. He is brave and loyal, and always tries to protect his friends. Tom, the cat, is more independent and often gets into trouble. Polly, the parrot, is talkative and opinionated, and Jocko, the monkey, is mischievous and playful.Throughout the book, the animals interact with each other and with various customers who come into the pet shop. They also go on adventures outside of the shop, such as visiting a circus or going on a boat ride. The novel is written in a lighthearted and humorous style, and is suitable for readers of all ages.Overall, The Pets is a charming and entertaining book that celebrates the joys of animal companionship and the special bond between pets and their owners. It is a timeless classic that continues to delight readers more than a century after its initial publication. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
