Observations Connected With Astronomy And Ancient History, Sacred And Profane, On The Ruins Of Babylon is a book written by Claudius James Rich in 1816. The book is a detailed account of Rich's observations and studies of Babylon, its ruins, and its history. It covers a wide range of topics such as astronomy, ancient history, and religion, both sacred and profane. Rich's work is based on his personal experiences and research during his time as the British Resident in Baghdad. The book includes detailed descriptions of the ruins of Babylon, including the famous Tower of Babel, the Hanging Gardens, and the Ishtar Gate. Rich also discusses the history of Babylon, its rulers, and the various empires that ruled over it. He delves into the religious practices of the Babylonians, including their worship of Marduk, the chief god of Babylon. One of the most significant aspects of the book is Rich's observations on the astronomy of the Babylonians. He discusses their use of the lunar calendar and their knowledge of the movements of the stars and planets. Rich also explores the connection between astronomy and religion in Babylonian culture. Overall, Observations Connected With Astronomy And Ancient History, Sacred And Profane, On The Ruins Of Babylon is a comprehensive and detailed account of Babylon and its history.
