Love Scenes

„Love Scenes“ is a book about love, hate and family drama. After her character got written off her crime show, Sloane Ford finds herself without a steady job. She half-heartedly agrees to work behind the scenes on a new movie that every single person of her extended family is a part of. What she did not know is that her arch-nemesis Joseph Donovan is to star in it… Going into this, I expected „Love Scenes“ to be a fun enemies-to-lovers romance novel. In part that’s even true, but it‘s far from the whole story. It’s also a book about the entertainment industry and above all a story about family. It took me quite a while to get into and enjoy this book. That’s mostly due to the fact that Sloane isn’t being treated very well by her family most of the time. I felt like she is tolerated more than accepted and on top of that there’s a lot of miscommunication, unresolved tension, deep-rooted hurt and grudges that have been held for an eternity. In the end, I did appreciate how real their interactions and dynamics feel, though. Even though, this isn’t the most light-hearted and fun of novels, it does show that even the most dysfunctional of families are there for their own when needed and how patchwork families can be chaotic and wonderful at the same time. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy novels about family dynamics, the entertainment industry and/or love enemies-to-lovers romances.
