Kritik am heutigen Aktivismus, nur noch Visibilität ohne darauffolgende Aktion/Veränderung zum Besseren. Natürlich auch sehr schönes Cover, was natürlich nebensächlich ist, aber eben doch auch eine symbolische Kraft hat. Eines Tages wird es (hoffentlich) so gut wie keine Diskriminierungsformen mehr geben und alles wird in voller Blüte stehen und jede*r sich so entfalten können, wie man will. Angenehm geschrieben, weiter zu empfehlen.

This is not just a reiteration of what other anti-racist books have already stated a hundred times. Emma Dabiri offers a new and certainly not uncontroversial perspective on issues of race. She dares to be complex instead of reducing her ideas to catchphrases that can be printed onto T-shirts. She refuses the essentialism that many anti-racist books and teachers preach and shifts the focus away from giving up individual privileges or habits and towards changing societal systems and identifying common goals. For her whiteness and blackness should not be seen as fixed racial identities but rather knowledge systems, lenses through which the world can be seen. (A great fictional follow-up reed to illustrate that idea would be The Vanishing Half by Britt Bennett.) An essay that deserves to be called radical in the best sense!
