Entertaining Sequel

Bewertungsnummer: 383359

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

"Anne of Avonlea" picks up right where "Anne of Green Gables" left off and is just as entertaining as its predecessor. This book spans two years and follows Anne from age 16 to 18. In that time she starts teaching at her old school, makes new acquaintances and kind of becomes a big sister. How come? Marilla decides to adopt a pair of six-year-old twins. One of the two, Davy, is a lively and extremely curious young lad. With him, life definitiely isn't about to get boring in the forseeable future. "Anne of Avonlea" is just as jolly as the series' first installment and I had a good time reading it. I loved seeing how Anne keeps evolving into an independent and determined young woman, and it's highly amusing (and at the same time heart-warming) to see her interacting with her students and adoptive brother. Davy is probably my favourite amongst the new characters - his childlike innocence, curiosity and knack for getting into trouble made me laugh out loud quite a few times. Since I am a romantic at heart I would have wished for more scenes including Anne and Gilbert. Even though he hasn't played a major role just yet, I am already a big fan of his character. All in all, "Anne of Avonlea" is an amazing continuation of "Anne of Green Gables" and leaves you wanting for more, still. If you, like me, can't get enough of this series, you can continue reading with "Anne of the Island".
