A stormy investigation

Bewertung (Mitglied der Book Circle Community) am 25.10.2023

Bewertungsnummer: 2052521

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

The story in this novel is the sequel to Camino Island. In my opinion, it’s not necessary to have read the first book. For the ones who have, they will recognize the characters. Once again, John Grisham takes us back to Camino Island in Florida, but this time the circumstances get a little stormy because hurricane Leo is on its way. The tornado rips through the island with such a force, in the end, nearly everything is destroyed or flooded. Lucky are the ones who could leave their homes on time to find shelter somewhere safe. On top of that nightmare, a murder occurred during the storm. It seems that it was suicide or an accident. Neighbours and devastated friends won’t believe in suicide. Unfortunately, the authorities are uncooperative, this makes it even harder to believe that they can solve the case. The book shop owner Bruce Cable and his friends don’t want to accept it. They start to dig into their dead friends past, and what they find reinforces their belief that it was murder. Has his death anything to do with his latest book, which is not yet published. Has he written a story only fictitious? The more his literary friends dig into the case, the more they attract the attention of the ones who want to keep the written secrets hidden. As it gets obvious that the police won’t help them, an external help brings the case back on track. In the end, it remains to be seen, that the ones responsible are convicted. In my opinion, Camino winds is a fitting sequel with a well-established plot. Although he chose a different approach, the story isn’t less gripping. Different, but in an enjoyable way. The story came to a logical conclusion, perhaps a little too abrupt an ending for my taste.
